Allermuir Designers: PearsonLloyd
Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd first met while studying Furniture Design and Industrial Design respectively, at London’s prestigious Royal College of Art. They set up their multi award winning design studio in 1997.
Since then the studio has created stunning solutions for a variety of international clients from the aviation, workplace, urban design and healthcare sectors identifying and responding to shifting patterns of behaviour in contemporary life.
The London based practice takes a collaborative approach to its work, embracing the restrictions imposed by production, the market and all the other factors that define a brief. Their work is grounded in research and at the core is an attempt to understand the relationship between a product, its place, and the way people use it.
It is this innovative thinking that earned PearsonLloyd a Red Dot Award for the design of Ad-Lib for Senator.
DESIGNS FOR ALLERMUIR
Conic is a refreshing, eye-catching and exciting take on conical forms used in contemporary soft seating. The designs are a visual reference to the cone chairs of the 1950’s, with a shape and form designed to provide excellent and inviting levels of comfort with an almost domestic appeal. The range is complemented by a family of low tables, designed for different use of space.
Curve offers a high level of comfort and shape, whilst uncompromising on style and function. This stacking chair and stool has a slender chrome wire frame that complements the elegant, balanced ply form, available in both side chair and armchair versions with the additional option of a high stool.
Open is an elegant and compact collection of soft seating. The chair and couch have a formed steel rod base-frame. Angular and striking, they lend a physical lightness to the aesthetic appeal of the design.
The moulded seat shells and cushions with ‘bull-nosed’ edge profile, economic detailing and tailored upholstery provide precise shaping and great comfort – a simple pleasing form and visual slenderness.
The design seeks to embrace the technological possibilities of structural injection moulded plastics to reinvent the ubiquitous steel cantilever chair. The concept delivers a flexing organic form that provides true ergonomic comfort and support to its user.
The Famiglia seating family includes a collection of low, mid, high back and lounge chairs that between them offer a choice of metal or wooden legs and 5-star bases. These are complemented by a range of occasional and light work tables for informal or formal needs.
Famiglia’s selection of occasional tables recognises how dramatically our office and hospitality landscapes have evolved in recent years. This collection of high, low and side tables are as well suited to a hospitality environment as they are to a break out zone, or even interspersed within the office as occasional touch down and meeting points.
